Ence has been confirmed for the sixth consecutive time as a great place to work, according to the international consulting firm Great Place To Work® (GPTW). In addition to this distinction, it has also had its certification from the Top Employers Institute revalidated, placing it among the best employers in the country for the second consecutive year.

Active in 131 countries and regions, the Top Employers Institute is the global authority on certification, benchmarking, and human resources consulting. Its program certifies organizations based on the results of its HR Best Practices Survey, which covers six areas: people strategy, work environment, talent attraction, learning, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and well-being.

Personal and professional growth

The results achieved highlight the work that Ence has been doing, guided by a specific strategic plan focused on people and by corporate values that define its business culture.

Also noteworthy are the team’s achievements linked to the organizational business strategy and the company’s commitment to ensuring inclusive and diverse environments.

Ence has been recognized for the fourth consecutive year with the “Calculo y Reduzco” (I Calculate and Reduce) seal, awarded by the Spanish Office for Climate Change (OECC). This distinction is part of the registration process in the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge’s (MITECO) Carbon Footprint, Offsetting and CO₂ Absorption Projects Registry.

The seal accredits those organizations that, in addition to calculating their carbon footprint, effectively reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. Ence has once again demonstrated its commitment to climate action, recording a decrease of around 15% in average emission intensity for scopes 1 and 2 in the period 2022-2024 compared to 2021-2023.

Decarbonization Plan
This progress is in line with the Ence Group’s Decarbonization Plan, which sets particularly ambitious targets: to reduce absolute emissions from scopes 1 and 2 by 55% by 2030 and to achieve a 75% reduction by 2035, both compared to the base year 2018.

The renewal of the “Calculo y Reduzco” seal reaffirms the company’s consistency with its Climate Change Policy, in which Ence establishes its commitment to achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

With this new milestone, Ence consolidates its leadership and commitment to sustainability, moving decisively towards a decarbonized production model aligned with global challenges in the face of climate change.

Ence Navia reaffirms its role as a benchmark in industrial sustainability by maintaining its continuous registration, since 2002, under the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS).

The company was the first industrial company in Asturias to obtain this European registration and has successively renewed its participation ever since. As a result, Ence Navia has become the longest-standing company participating in this voluntary European Union environmental management mechanism in the field of environmental management.

EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) is a tool developed by the European Union that recognises organisations which have implemented an Environmental Management System and have committed to continuous improvement, verified through independent audits.

Adherence to EMAS entails meeting more stringent requirements than those established by legal regulations. For more than two decades, Ence has undergone external audits that ensure the transparency of its environmental data, with each published environmental statement validated by independent bodies.

Innovation and continuous improvement

For the company, EMAS is not merely a certification, but a catalyst for innovation and continuous improvement. Ence regularly reviews its environmental objectives, adapting them to global challenges and the expectations of its stakeholders. This has enabled significant progress in energy efficiency, waste management and emissions reduction, as well as the promotion of projects such as effluent recirculation and water regeneration, which reduce water consumption.

International recognition

Ence’s biofactory in Navia has established itself as an international benchmark in sustainability, endorsed by prestigious recognitions. These include the Ecovadis Platinum Medal, the highest rating awarded by this global platform; the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, a symbol of environmental excellence; and the EU Ecolabel, which certifies environmentally friendly products. In addition, its biomass holds the SURE certification, guaranteeing its sustainability, and the plant is certified with AENOR’s Zero Waste label, highlighting its commitment to the circular economy

The company is enhancing the daily experience and safety of hauliers, operators and partners who use the wood and biomass reception facilities.

As a strategic ally of the sector, Ence Terra continues to support solutions that promote stability, profitability and the development of rural areas.

Ence Terra, an initiative promoted by Ence that brings together all of the company’s forestry activity, continues to make progress in its investment and improvement plan for the wood yards at its Pontevedra and Navia biofactories. The main aim of this set of actions—into which the company has invested over one million euros—is to improve the daily experience and safety of the hauliers, operators and partners who use the wood and biomass reception facilities.

Works at the Pontevedra biofactory

At the Pontevedra biofactory, following an improvement project on the traffic routes, a new waiting booth for hauliers has been installed, signage has been reinforced, and an information system with a large display screen has been put in place to provide relevant information for hauliers.

In Pontevedra, two-way intercoms have also been installed to facilitate communication between drivers and operators at the timber yard, and other key measures have been completed, such as illuminated signage and the installation of fixed signs.

Works at the Navia biofactory

At the Navia biofactory, in addition to resurfacing the internal roads, large storage islands have been filled, allowing for better use of areas previously vulnerable to rainfall. An information screen has also been installed, providing real-time messages regarding the wood yard and other relevant updates.

Furthermore, new technologies are being introduced at the Navia facility to automate tasks previously carried out manually, such as cleaning the platforms. The new automatic blowing machines improve both the safety conditions and the operational efficiency of hauliers. This innovation will also be implemented at the Ence Pontevedra wood yard.

Commitment to the forestry sector

These investments address operational needs and represent a significant improvement in the user experience at the wood yards. The placement of services such as information screens and haulier booths ensures better coordination of operations, taking into account both traffic flows and user needs. Each of these improvements is designed to facilitate the daily work of Ence

Terra’s partners: their safety, comfort and access to clear information are priorities in every decision made by the company.

Through these actions, Ence Terra reaffirms its commitment to the development of a modern, efficient and sustainable forestry sector. As a strategic ally of the sector, Ence Terra continues to back real solutions that promote stability, profitability and the development of rural areas.

The service offers an innovative solution that reduces downtime and improves productivity in the forestry sector.

Ence Terra, a company created in 2023, encompasses all of the Ence Group’s activities related to sustainable forest management.

Ence Terra, in collaboration with several leading forestry machinery repair workshops, has just launched a new mobile workshop service for companies working in forest environments. The aim of this initiative is to minimise the time between a machinery breakdown and its resolution, thereby ensuring continuity in forestry operations and ultimately increasing efficiency and competitiveness.

The mobile workshop service is made possible through the agreements reached by the company with renowned workshops in the sector. These partners provide Ence’s collaborators located in Galicia, Asturias and Cantabria with priority assistance for machinery breakdowns.

To streamline operations, Ence Terra has developed a dedicated mobile application that enables forestry companies to report breakdowns directly from the field, quickly and easily. At the same time, the workshops have access to a web platform where they receive these notifications and update the repair status in real time, from receipt of the alert to its resolution. The entire system has been designed to deliver a swift, efficient response tailored to the needs of the sector.

Replacement machinery service

This new service is complemented by another solution already available: the replacement machinery service. This option allows companies to continue their activity when a repair requires more time than expected. In such cases, Ence Terra provides the company with a machine on a temporary rental basis, thus ensuring continuity of operations, fulfilment of harvesting schedules and stability in invoicing.

Through these initiatives, Ence Terra strengthens its commitment to the professionalisation of the forestry sector, offering innovative solutions that enhance productivity, reduce downtime and reinforce the competitiveness of its partners.

Magnon is the strategic partner responsible for the execution of the facilities, co-funded by the PERTE for industrial decarbonization

Lactalis España, the leading dairy company in Spain, together with Magnon, the country’s leading producer of renewable energy from forest and agricultural biomass, is strengthening its commitment to sustainability and the energy transition by promoting two new biomass plants at its production centres in Villarrobledo (Albacete) and Granada.

The projects, promoted by Lactalis and executed by Magnon, involve an associated investment of more than €12 million (€6.06M in Granada and €6.35M in Villarrobledo). They are partially co-funded by the Spanish Government’s Strategic Project for Economic Recovery and Transformation (PERTE) for industrial decarbonisation, and will help Lactalis achieve a 76% reduction in its total Scope 1 and 2 CO₂ emissions in Spain compared with the 2019 baseline year, accelerating its industrial decarbonisation strategy.

Each plant will be equipped with a saturated steam boiler producing 10 tonnes per hour at 16 bar(g), fuelled with certified agro-forestry biomass sourced from neighbouring areas. This technology will replace the use of natural gas with renewable thermal energy, with a generation capacity of 37,000 MWh/year in Villarrobledo and 41,000 MWh/year in Granada—around 40,000 MWh/year per plant—significantly increasing the green energy already supplied by the photovoltaic plants operating at both sites.

The biomass used in the new plants will be fully certified under European sustainability standards, ensuring traceability and carbon-neutral impact. It will be sourced from the provinces of Albacete, Granada and surrounding areas, helping reduce the logistics footprint and promoting the use of local agro-forestry resources. This proximity will not only ensure a stable supply, but also contribute directly to the economic development of rural areas, generating activity in regions traditionally linked to the primary sector.

In addition, the project includes the use of innovative technologies for the generation and efficient management of renewable thermal energy. Its design incorporates advanced solutions that ensure optimal performance, a significant reduction in emissions and minimal environmental impact. The management of by-products such as ash and slag will also follow sustainability criteria, with valorisation options such as agricultural fertiliser or alternative fuels, fully integrating circular-economy principles into daily operations.

The projects will create 20 jobs at each plant, including both direct and indirect positions, and are expected to be operational from June 2026.

“This project represents a new milestone in our industrial decarbonisation strategy in Spain. At Lactalis, we are moving forward decisively and ahead of the group’s global objectives, thanks to initiatives such as this that allow us to accelerate the energy transition at our factories. The commissioning of these biomass plants, together with other investments in renewable energy, demonstrates that we are not only meeting climate commitments, but exceeding them with vision, rigour and ambition,” said David Saliot, CEO of Lactalis Spain and Portugal.

According to Guillermo Negro, CEO of Magnon, “It is a pleasure to implement and manage this project for a company like Lactalis, a benchmark in the agri-food sector. This collaboration allows us to contribute all our knowledge and experience in sustainable energy solutions, with an industrial, efficient and locally committed approach. We are proud to help drive a real transformation of the energy model in the food industry.”

A strategic commitment by Lactalis to industrial decarbonisation

These projects, carried out in collaboration with Magnon, form part of Lactalis’s CSR roadmap, whose decarbonisation objectives have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Since 2019, the company has already reduced its Scope 1 and 2 CO₂ emissions in Spain by 69.3%, and with these new plants coming into operation the reduction will reach 76%, consolidating its progress in industrial sustainability and decarbonisation.

Magnon is firmly committed to industrial decarbonisation, offering comprehensive solutions for generating renewable thermal energy from biomass. The company has more than 20 years’ experience in biomass energy production, which in recent years it has made available to industry to provide a complete decarbonisation solution. It currently works with leading companies in the agri-food sector to decarbonise their industrial processes.

Lactalis España’s decarbonisation strategy is being developed in stages:

• First, a switch from diesel to natural gas in Granada in 2020, which reduced CO₂ emissions by 88% compared with 2019.

• After investing €35 million in its facilities in Navia (Asturias), the company will produce up to 125,000 tonnes of fluff pulp.
• This type of cellulose has a lower carbon footprint, replacing imports of long-fibre fluff from the United States.
• The launch of this new line is the result of the company’s firm commitment to innovation

Ence is advancing its strategy to become a manufacturer of speciality cellulose by promoting higher value-added substitutes for long fibre.

As a key part of this strategy, the company has launched its first fluff pulp production line at its Navia biofactory, with an annual capacity of 125,000 tonnes, which is currently in the process of being approved by customers.

This new product is aimed at the European absorbent hygiene products sector and is designed to replace imported fluff pulp made from long fibre, while also providing a more sustainable European manufacturing alternative with a lower carbon footprint.

The investment associated with the start-up of this new production line amounts to €35 million. In this way, the company is reinforcing its commitment to innovation, sustainability and the development of products with greater added value for its customers.

Speciality cellulose: target to exceed 60% of sales in 2028

During the first nine months of 2025, Ence’s speciality cellulose range accounted for nearly 30% of this business unit’s sales. This development reflects the company’s commitment to differentiated products with growing demand in the international market.

The company expects speciality cellulose — including the new fluff cellulose — to account for more than 62% of total sales volume in 2028. This increase in the weight of higher-margin products in the commercial mix will enable Ence to continue consolidating its position as one of the most competitive producers of long fibre substitute solutions.
