This year, Ence commemorates the 40th anniversary of an unprecedented scientific and technical achievement: the implementation, for the first time in the world and on a commercial scale, of a technique that allows the rooting of Eucalyptus globulus cuttings. This breakthrough, developed at its Huelva nursery in 1985, marked a turning point in forestry innovation.

The technique, pioneered worldwide, allows the rooting of cuttings from selected specimens in the forest, the so-called plus trees, and opened the door to the creation of more homogeneous, efficient and resistant forest stands against limiting factors such as drought, pests or soil conditions. This is an achievement in forestry innovation that has been replicated by companies in countries known for their forest resources, such as Portugal, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and even Australia.

Sustainable management standards

The success of the technique lies in the exhaustive control of factors such as humidity, temperature and luminosity to which the cuttings are subjected until they manage to take root and become a plant suitable for cultivation. Ence has continued to improve this technique to boost its position in the field of forestry innovation.

Four decades later, this achievement continues to be the basis of the company’s innovative and sustainable forestry model, all under the standards of responsible management in which Ence was also a pioneer.
