{"id":26914,"date":"2026-07-21T18:28:12","date_gmt":"2026-07-21T16:28:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ence.es\/?p=26914"},"modified":"2026-07-21T18:30:26","modified_gmt":"2026-07-21T16:30:26","slug":"ence-returns-to-profit-in-the-second-quarter-of-2026-supported-by-the-recovery-in-the-pulp-cycle-and-lower-costs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ence.es\/en\/ence-returns-to-profit-in-the-second-quarter-of-2026-supported-by-the-recovery-in-the-pulp-cycle-and-lower-costs\/","title":{"rendered":"Ence returns to profit in the second quarter of 2026, supported by the recovery in the pulp cycle and lower costs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ence reported a net profit of <strong>\u20ac0.5 million<\/strong> in the second quarter of 2026, driven by the recovery in pulp prices from previously recorded lows and by lower costs resulting from the implementation of the <strong>Efficiency and Competitiveness Plan<\/strong> for its Pulp business, announced by the company.<\/p>\n<p>Consolidated <strong>EBITDA<\/strong> for the second quarter of 2026 amounted to <strong>\u20ac27 million<\/strong>, up <strong>16%<\/strong> on the same period in 2025, when the result included <strong>\u20ac10 million<\/strong> from <strong>Energy Saving Certificates (CAEs)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Speciality pulps: a strategic commitment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Within the Pulp business, the company also made further progress as a producer of speciality pulps that substitute long-fibre pulp, including its new <strong>fluff pulp<\/strong> production line for the hygiene and incontinence products market, which is currently undergoing customer qualification.<\/p>\n<p>These speciality pulps, which generate an average additional margin of <strong>\u20ac36 per tonne<\/strong> compared with standard pulp, accounted for <strong>34% of sales in 2026<\/strong>, up from <strong>30% in 2025<\/strong>. The company&#8217;s objective is for this figure to exceed <strong>62% by 2028<\/strong>, further strengthening Ence&#8217;s position as the most competitive producer of long-fibre pulp substitutes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lower cash cost<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In line with the company&#8217;s focus on cost reduction, <strong>cash cost<\/strong> (production cost) in the Pulp business fell to <strong>\u20ac455 per tonne<\/strong> in the second quarter of 2026, <strong>\u20ac67 per tonne lower<\/strong> than in the previous quarter. This improvement reflects Ence&#8217;s continued focus on implementing its <strong>Efficiency and Competitiveness Plan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Moeve selects Magnon for a strategic project at its Huelva refinery<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The renewable industrial heat business continued to accelerate its growth during the second quarter, with a new project comprising two boilers entering into operation. The company expects to end 2026 with <strong>five projects in operation<\/strong>, compared with <strong>one at the end of 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, <strong>Moeve<\/strong> has selected <strong>Magnon Servicios Energ\u00e9ticos<\/strong>, Ence&#8217;s subsidiary, as its partner to develop a thermal energy plant at its <strong>Huelva refinery<\/strong>. The two companies are currently in the final stage of contractual negotiations. The large-scale project is expected to generate more than <strong>350 GWhth<\/strong> of thermal energy and has been designated a <strong>Strategic Project<\/strong> by the Regional Government of Andalusia.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Progress in biomethane<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In biomethane, the company has built a portfolio of <strong>41 projects<\/strong> with a potential production capacity of <strong>up to 4 TWh<\/strong>, compared with its target of <strong>1 TWh by 2030<\/strong>. Of these, <strong>28 projects<\/strong> are currently in the engineering and permitting phase.
