Ence and the City Council of San Juan del Puerto have selected 30 local initiatives to be beneficiaries of the 100,000 euros of aid with which the energy company provides the collaboration agreement that both entities have. The projects have been chosen for their positive impact on the socio-economic, environmental and cultural development of this Huelva town, the ultimate objective of Ence’s sustainability policy in the environment of its operations.
After evaluating all the projects that have been presented this year, the Monitoring Commission that manages the collaboration agreement has prioritized the social interest of the initiatives, as well as their importance in the economic, environmental and cultural boost of the town and its better recovery after the pandemic.
In this way, the 100,000 euros of direct aid will serve to continue supporting vulnerable groups, such as minors, the elderly or people with functional diversity, reinforcing their resources to face the needs caused by Covid-19. Also to advance in the improvement of educational quality and in reducing the digital divide of local centers, as well as for innovative initiatives such as online training for children in pictorial language to promote their creativity, sustainable agricultural development or the promotion of renewable energies for domestic electricity consumption.
Other of the benefited proposals are aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles such as sports in all its forms, and also natural tourism in the closest environment. Likewise, in 2021, among the selected projects, initiatives for the production of audiovisual works on topics of high social interest such as the flight of young talent or gender violence stand out.
According to Diego Lamela, Ence manager in Huelva, “we are very satisfied with the reception that each year the local groups of San Juan del Puerto give to our aid, proposing more and more projects with greater depth and social interest that greatly complicates the final decision of the award. But, above all, for our company it is proof that our sustainability policy works, causing a direct and real transforming effect in the nearby communities with which we live ”.
The mayor of San Juan del Puerto, Rocío Cárdenas, has highlighted that since it was promoted for the first time in 2018 “it is a vital agreement to continue energizing the associative fabric in our town, and we hope to maintain it, because it represents an important stimulus that allows us to maintain municipal activities that the whole neighborhood enjoys and that many people promote, most altruistically, who previously only had the support of the City Council ”.
The framework collaboration agreement that Ence has had with San Juan del Puerto for four years, promotes specific agreements that result in the promotion and creation of employment, the improvement of the employability of people, as well as the social and environmental improvement of the citizens of San Juan del Puerto. This agreement is a confirmation of Ence’s increasingly firm commitment to the groups around its activities, where sustainability and social responsibility are fundamental pillars of its management.
