The Xunta de Galicia grants the environmental impact statement for Ence’s project in As Pontes

The Xunta de Galicia has published in the Diario Oficial de Galicia the favorable environmental impact statement (EIS) for the strategic industrial project of a bleached recycled biofiber plant and its auxiliary infrastructures promoted by Ence in As Pontes.

Obtaining the favorable EIS not only validates the environmental commitment of the project, but also allows to move forward with a firm step towards the implementation of a strategic initiative for the sustainable reindustrialization of the region.

Pioneering initiative worldwide

The As Pontes project promoted by Ence in this town of A Coruña is a pioneering initiative in circular economy that combines the recovery of paper and textile fibers, renewable energy production and CO₂ capture, with a significant impact on employment and sustainability.

Ence will carry out an investment of up to 355 million in the completion of the three phases contemplated by this project, which will generate close to 1,250 jobs. The first phase will involve the start-up of a recovered fiber plant, which includes a pilot plant for the recovery of textile fibers; the second phase includes a cogeneration plant with 150 MW of thermal power and around 50 MW of electrical power; and the third phase includes a tissue plant.

The Regatex project, focused on the pilot plant for the recovery of textile fibers in As Pontes, will contribute significantly to the circular bioeconomy through the creation of an innovative textile recycling system with different compositions that until now could not be reused.
