The Ence biofactory in Navia begins its annual technical stoppage today

The Ence biofactory in Navia will begin its annual technical shutdown today, which will last until April 22, when it will resume its normal activity.

Throughout this stop, more than 14 million euros will be invested in the naviega plant, and an ambitious work plan will be executed to incorporate new technologies and improve existing ones, in order to continue reinforcing efficiency, reliability and environmental excellence. from the Asturian Ence biofactory.

All of this will allow Ence Navia to remain at the forefront of the sector, as one of the most competitive biofactories in Europe, and for its efficiency to continue driving the Group, even more so at a time like the current one, marked by strong increases in the price of cellulose (which has increased more than 50% since last autumn).

Thus, along with the work aimed at maintaining the biofactory, this technical interruption will be used to reinforce its sustainability, especially in the areas of decarbonization of processes and reduction and optimization of water consumption.

In this sense, it is worth remembering that this facility has been recognized with the “Nordic Swan” ecological label, in addition to the AENOR Zero Waste certificate; and its pulp has received the EU Ecolabel label. Likewise, its biomass has been accredited under the “SURE” scheme, which ensures its sustainability.

The safety and health of all people related to Ence’s activity represent a top priority for the company. For this reason, compliance with all safety measures in the biofactory will be rigorously monitored, in which more than 1,500 workers will operate during this stoppage. The participation of almost a hundred collaborating companies is planned, which will carry out their activity simultaneously.

For Ence, the technical stoppage of its biofactories is a key moment, because during it several of the essential axes of its management model materialize: environmental and safety excellence, the continuous improvement of its results and facilities and the social commitment to the environment.
