Respect for the environment
Ence’s environmental commitment is based on rigorous and exhaustive compliance with current regulations. Such regulations establish the requirements to be fulfilled by all activities related to pulp production and renewable energy generation.
Our biofactories’ and power plants’ Integrated Environmental Authorization (AAI), set out the environmental conditions required to operate an industrial facility. Its aim is to prevent or, where this is not possible, minimize and control the pollution of air, water and soil, in order to achieve high environmental protection as a whole.
In this context, the AAI for each facility sets limit values based on best available techniques and monitoring plans for all relevant environmental aspects.
Since 2014, our Biofactories have the Nordic Swan ecolabel (Nordic countries’ ecolabel) for complying with the most stringent criteria of environmental protection.
In 2015, the European Commission awarded Ence’s Lourizán Biofactory the Gold Distinction in recognition for our environmental improvement over the past 15 years.
In 2023, Ence has been recognized with the Ecovadis platinum medal: the highest qualification awarded by this platform. The score received by Ence places it at the global forefront in terms of sustainability. Specifically, Ence is in the 99th percentile.
