Responsible Forest Management
Forest Certification, whether for Sustainable Forest Management or Chain of Custody, demonstrates compliance with the most demanding standards through auditing by an independent third party, providing clients and stakeholders with assurances of the sustainability of management processes. ENCE certifies the sustainability of its forest management and the traceability of its forestry activity (both production and sales) through the FSC® (license numbers FSC-C099970 and FSC-C081854) and PEFC (license numbers PEFC/14-22-00010 and PEFC/14-33-00001) standards; and the sustainability of its biomass according to the Renewable Energy Directive (RED) through the SURE standard.

European Biomass Sustainability Directive (RED) and Anti-Deforestation Directive (EUDR)
In addition to voluntary standards related to sustainability, ENCE’s forest management is framed within compliance with two key directives for forest sustainability.
The European Renewable Energy Directives (RED III) aims to promote the use of renewable energy sources, including biomass, as part of the transition to a cleaner, more efficient, and sustainable energy system. ENCE trades forest biomass whose compliance with the Directive is accredited through SURE certification (https://sure-system.org/en-us/), which guarantees that the biomass used meets strict sustainability criteria.
Sure Certification
For its part, the European Anti-Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) seeks to ensure that products marketed in the EU—including timber—do not contribute to deforestation or forest degradation, whether legal or illegal. To this end, it requires companies to demonstrate the complete traceability of their supply chains back to the source, using due diligence systems. ENCE, in addition to complying with the Directive, has developed a specific application to help its suppliers comply with the regulation, reinforcing its commitment to forest protection.
