Magnon’s Castilla-La Mancha plants covered the energy needs of more than 351,000 people in 2021

Biollano and Enemansa, the plants that Magnon Green Energy has located in the province of Ciudad Real, produced enough renewable energy in 2021 to cover the energy needs of more than 351,000 people. With more than 430,000 MWh of renewable energy obtained from biomass, the aforementioned facilities contributed to the decarbonisation of the Spanish electricity system while providing stability, thanks to the manageability that characterizes the energy produced with this technology.

The generation of energy with biomass is not only a paradigm of the circular economy, but also avoids the mismanagement of agroforestry remains, which leads to their abandonment in natural spaces and, on numerous occasions, an uncontrolled burning of the same.

A recent case of success in terms of recovery is the Sarmiento Project, which provides a sustainable solution to pruning remains in the region of Castilla – La Mancha. Last year, more than 53,000 tons of these wine residues were recovered and converted into a source of renewable energy. This Magnon initiative has created 150 direct jobs in 40 Castilian-La Mancha municipalities throughout 2021.

Along these lines, the Magnon plants in Ciudad Real represent an important economic engine for the province, providing sustainable and quality employment. According to data from the Association of Renewable Energy Companies (APPA), each megawatt installed for biomass sustains 25 direct, indirect and induced jobs, which raises the social impact of the activity of the Puertollano and Villarta de San Juan plants to the 1,650 jobs.

Inaugurated at the beginning of 2020, Biollano 50 MW is an example of the just energy transition, since Ence used the old Elcogás site for the construction of this plant, which made it possible to maintain quality industrial employment, contributing to the revitalization of the economy of the area and favoring the decarbonisation of the Spanish energy system.

Enemansa, for its part, has been providing energy to the Ciudad Real area for almost 20 years. This plant is at the forefront of environmental technology, with the most advanced systems on the market, which again result in its excellence in sustainability.
