Magnon revalidates the sustainability of the biomass it manages with Sure certification.

For the fourth consecutive year, the plants of Magnon Green Energy, a renewable energy subsidiary of the Ence Group, are part of the group of facilities certified by the European Sure scheme, which guarantees the sustainability of the biomass consumed.

This milestone highlights the company’s robust sustainable biomass management system, which is not only limited to the supply of all its power plants, but also extends to the supply of sustainable biomass to third parties, thus guaranteeing that all the biomass managed by the company meets all the sustainability requirements of the European Union.

The Sure certification scheme is one of the tools developed to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Renewable Energy Directive (EU) 2018/2001 (REDII), a European regulation that establishes various criteria to be met by all biomasses used in the bioenergy sector, focused on ensuring their sustainability, a correct mass balance, the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and energy efficiency. Thanks to the Sure certification, the company complies with the requirements of the Renewable Energy Directive (EU) 2018/2001 (REDII), developed in Spain in the Royal Decree of transposition 376/2022, of May 17.

Magnon continues to be at the forefront of the sustainability of biomass as a renewable energy source. A path that the Ence Group already began in 2017, when it promoted its Decalogue for the Sustainability of Biomass as a Fuel, a pioneering initiative in Spanish business through which the company already guaranteed, for years, that the biomass used in its plants is sustainable.

The generation of energy with biomass is, in itself, a clear example of circular economy. The responsible use of agricultural and forestry biomass, always under environmental sustainability criteria, is not only a viable and necessary alternative in the energy transition, but also promotes decarbonization, generates employment and contributes significantly to rural development.
