Magnon, the renewable energy subsidiary of the Ence Group, has launched the Science Competition ‘Energy Transition and Fuels of the Future’. The initiative is aimed at students in the third and fourth years of compulsory secondary education (ESO), sixth-form education (Bachillerato) and vocational education and training (FP) in municipalities across the province of Huelva, where the company generates renewable energy from biomass. Its purpose is to foster interest in science, sustainability and the energy transition, while encouraging critical thinking and science communication skills among young people.
Entries will explore, in a rigorous yet accessible way, topics at the heart of the European energy debate, including renewable energy, the circular economy, the renewable fuels of the future and biogenic CO₂, all of which are playing an increasingly prominent role in technological and regulatory developments. Submissions may take the form of informative videos, presentations or scientific posters.
José Antonio Agüera, Operations Director at Magnon, said: ‘The energy transition cannot move forward without scientific literacy. We want young people in Huelva to play a leading role in this conversation, reflecting on today’s energy challenges and explaining them rigorously and clearly to society as a whole.’
Investing in future talent
Through this initiative, which forms part of its policy on sustainability, transparency and engagement with local communities, Magnon is reinforcing its commitment to STEM education and to fostering a strong scientific culture in the areas surrounding its energy operations.
The competition also seeks to create opportunities for calm, informed discussion about the energy transition, bringing the debate into the educational sphere and encouraging a technical and constructive approach. When young people study and explain these processes, the quality of public debate improves and the region strengthens its scientific culture.
Entries may be submitted until 11.59 pm on 23 October 2026 and will be assessed by a judging panel comprising professionals from the scientific, educational and technical fields. The winning school will receive a €500 prize, while the runner-up will receive a €200 voucher for educational materials. The competition rules are available at magnon.es.
