The Board of Directors of Ence Energía y Celulosa, after a favorable report from the Appointments and Remuneration Committee of the Board, has appointed Ignacio Colmenares as Chairman of the company, until now CEO and Vice President of the company. Juan Luis Arregui, has been named President of Honor and will maintain an active participation in the company from the Board and through the Executive Committee and the Sustainability Commission, of which he is a member.
The succession in the presidency of Ence takes place after thirteen years of mandate and having overcome Juan Luis Arregui 75 years of age. Committed actively with Ence, in which he maintains a 29% stake, Arregui hands over the baton to Ignacio Colmenares, who has been the first executive for nine years and vice-president of the Board of Directors for the past five years.
The President of Honor wanted to recognize “the excellent work of Ignacio Colmenares at the helm of Ence that has made it possible to turn the vision of transforming the company into a leader in renewable energy in Spain into reality, as well as to consolidate Ence as a benchmark in Europe in the cellulose sector. The transformation of Ence that I raised when I joined the shareholding is being fulfilled and it is time that Ignacio Colmenares, in which I have full confidence for his great work all these years, assumes the presidency of the company to lead the exciting future that we have ahead, for which I keep betting firmly, “he said.
Juan Luis Arregui has been the architect of the change experienced by Ence since entering the company’s shareholding in 2006. It is then that he replaces the project to build a pulp mill in Uruguay by the entry of Ence into the energy sector. renewable with biomass, to take full advantage of the tree and its possibilities for generating energy, until then untapped, becoming a few years later a leader in Spain in this technology.
Subsequently, the success in executing the successive strategic plans developed during his tenure have allowed Ence to grow strongly until he facilitated his entry into the IBEX 35 at the end of 2018, reflecting the fulfillment of the business goals that had been set.
The Board of Directors has also appointed Carlos del Álamo, a member of the Board since 2009 and current Chairman of the Appointments and Remuneration Committee, as Coordinating Director. Del Álamo, Forestry Engineer, has been President-Dean of the College and Association of Forestry Engineers. He is a professor of the Master’s Degree in Energy Efficiency and Climate Change at the Complutense University of Madrid, professor of the Master’s Degree in Environmental Project Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. He held positions of responsibility in the Administration related to forestry policy, the conservation of Nature and National Parks. He is currently President of the Institute of Engineering of Spain, Vice President of the TYPSA Group and President of TYPSA Statistics and Services.
