Ence’s biofactory in Pontevedra has resumed its normal production activity after successfully completing its annual technical shutdown, a necessary operation to carry out maintenance work and implement strategic projects.
During this period, 1,500 workers from around a hundred auxiliary companies joined Ence’s regular workforce, providing a significant boost to the local economy, with a notable positive impact on sectors such as hospitality and retail.
An investment of €11 million was made during the shutdown to execute a comprehensive work plan focused on maintenance operations and improvements designed to strengthen safety, optimise energy performance, and advance environmental excellence.
Accordingly, the company has undertaken preventive and corrective maintenance actions, strategic projects for technological improvement, energy optimisation, reduction of environmental impact, and reinforcement of safety – a top priority for the company.
Recognition and Environmental Commitment
The Pontevedra biofactory has been recognised for its achievements in sustainability and environmental excellence. Among its most recent awards are the AENOR 2023 Prize for two decades of environmental care, the Nordic Swan eco-label from the Nordic countries, the European Commission’s Gold Medal for environmental improvement, and AENOR’s “Zero Waste” certificate. In addition, the biomass used holds “Sure” certification, which guarantees the sustainability of the raw materials employed in the process.
With the completion of this technical shutdown, Ence reinforces its commitment to people’s safety, operational efficiency, technological innovation, and environmental excellence, consolidating the Pontevedra biofactory as a benchmark in the sector.
