Ence’s biofactory in Navia managed to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 2018

• The plant is located as one of the energy facilities with the best records in all of Asturias.

• The company plans to implement in 2019 a new control mechanism that will allow to continue improving the environmental performance of the organization.

Ence’s biofactory in Navia substantially improved its environmental performance in 2018, by reducing the tons of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere by 2,800 compared to the previous year’s data. This was confirmed by the verification audit of greenhouse gas emissions to which the plant was submitted at the end of last year. The audit results in the best emission efficiency data for this biofactory, in relation to its production.

With these data, the plant is among the best records of energy generation facilities in the region. The greatest reduction in greenhouse gas emissions has been achieved thanks to the reduction in fuel consumption, both in the recovery boiler, linked to the industrial process of pulp, and in the biomass boiler. Overall, the use of this fuel was reduced by 1,854 tons compared to 2017.

The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the Navia biofactory confirms Ence’s commitment to the defense and care of the environment. Within this line, in the company’s bio-factories, measures to reduce the carbon footprint and improve energy efficiency are being carried out, and in 2019 work has begun to define a protocol for calculating the carbon footprint. of the organization that allows better directing actions in these areas.

Finally, it is necessary to emphasize that Ence contributes to the mitigation of climate change through its own activity, thanks to the carbon fixation in its forest areas, to the use of biomass as an energy source in the cellulose bio-factories and generation of renewable energy in independent power plants.
