Ence’s biofactory in Navia completes its annual technical shutdown with the participation of 1,500 workers from around a hundred auxiliary companies

Ence’s biofactory in Navia has resumed its normal production activity after having successfully completed its annual technical shutdown to carry out maintenance and investment work.

This action has allowed to develop in the facilities a comprehensive work plan to incorporate new technologies and improve existing ones including actions to improve the facilities to strengthen their competitiveness. Specifically, Ence has invested 14 million euros in the Asturian plant.

The company considers safety to be a fundamental priority. Thus, it has managed to complete the annual technical shutdown with zero accidents among its own and contracted personnel, which is particularly relevant considering the complexity of the work and the large number of people involved in all the actions. In fact, during this period, the more than 400 people directly employed by Ence Navia have been joined by some 1,500 workers from around one hundred auxiliary companies.

Boosting the local economy

This process of Ence is also a strong boost to the local economy of Navia and its immediate surroundings, which is felt not only in local employment, but also and especially in the consumption of sectors such as hospitality (catering and hotel occupancy, especially) and trade.

The technical shutdown is a key moment for the company. In addition to materialising some of the fundamental pillars of its management model – such as environmental excellence, safety and the continuous improvement of its facilities – this process, and the activity linked to it, contribute to the creation of wealth in the western region of Asturias.
