Ence’s biofactories received more than 800 visitors in 2023

Ence’s pulp biofactories, in Pontevedra and Navia (Asturias), together received more than 800 visitors throughout 2023. These people were able to learn, first-hand, how the pulp production processes and renewable energy generation in these facilities.

The company understands environmental education as essential to continue moving towards a more sustainable future, to the extent that it contributes to creating greater awareness about the environment and its care. He also considers it essential to make visible to young students the professional opportunities that industry and renewable energies represent. Therefore, a good part of these visits came from schools and universities in the geographical areas close to the plants.

Based on transparency and closeness, which are also pillars of Ence’s commitment to society, neighborhood groups, sports and cultural entities have also been received in the different centers, in order to bring Ence’s processes closer to society and promote their knowledge.

During these visits, attendees have the opportunity to learn about the production process developed by the company, based on circularity, in such a way that all the raw materials are used and the generation of waste is minimized, giving rise to cellulosic products of natural origin, biodegradable and recyclable, as well as generating renewable energy from biomass.

Not in vain, both biofactories have been recognized with the prestigious Nordic Swan ecological label from the Scandinavian countries. They also have the “Zero Waste” certificate from AENOR, and the sustainability of the biomass they use has been certified under the SURE sustainability verification scheme.

Ence’s commitment to sustainability has been recognized in 2023 with the Ecovadis platinum medal, the highest qualification awarded by this platform, specialized in evaluating the sustainability of companies, and which places Ence at the global forefront in terms of sustainability. Likewise, the Sustainalytics agency has endorsed Ence as a leader in sustainability by virtue of its leadership in environmental and social issues, as well as its outstanding performance in terms of governance.

Through these visits Ence seeks to transmit its strategic values, among which sustainability stands out; specifically, the importance of responsible production and consumption, as well as the commitment to caring for the environment. All this to continue advancing towards the circular bioeconomy, while generating sustainable employment and wealth in the territory.
