Primeira Persoa do Rural, an initiative promoted by Ence Terra aimed at promoting rural development, held its second forum and brought together two key figures in the sector: the renowned winemaker Eladio Piñeiro and Carlos Malvido, a member of the A Meixoeira cooperative. Both shared their experience and achievements while addressing the challenges and opportunities of this key sector for the future of Galicia and society as a whole.
The Eladio Piñeiro Rural Wines enclave (Vilagarcía de Arousa, Pontevedra) was the setting for the meeting, a family winery that is a pioneer in the production of Albariño. For his part, Carlos Malvido represented the A Meixoeira cooperative (Moaña), of which he is a member and which manages a farm with more than 200 sheep for the processing of milk into cheeses and other dairy products, with important international recognition.
Both Piñeiro and Malvido have highlighted the importance of people with projects for rural areas becoming aware that it is possible to carry them out, and of promoting this future among the population. “We must invest and create opportunities in rural areas so that those who come after can take advantage of them,” said Malvido. For his part, Eladio Piñeiro stressed that “it is important that the existing population in rural areas believes in the possibility of living and achieving their goals here.”
The disconnection between rural and urban areas, the added value of products with essential ingredients produced in rural areas, or the characteristics of businesses in this area, which are small-scale and promote entrepreneurship, were other topics discussed.
The second forum En Primeira Persoa do Rural has revealed new stories of entrepreneurship and development opportunities in the area; and demonstrates Ence Terra’s commitment to the rural environment and its sustainable development, by recognizing the value of people who, with effort and dedication, build a more prosperous future for their communities on a daily basis.
