The safety and health of all the people related to Ence’s activity represent a priority for the company, which has established itself as a reference in the matter in its sector thanks to the results obtained in the first six months of the year. In this period, all areas of the group have improved their results in terms of safety compared to last year’s closing values, and the overall value of the company improves any record of the historical series. All this while maintaining discipline in the application of specific protocols to minimize the risk of contagion by Covid-19.
In terms of safety, Ence’s frequency indexes are well below the industry benchmarks in Spain, both in the case of cellulose (more than nine times below the average for the pulp and paper sector), and in the business of energy (up to six times below the industrial sector).
In the first half of this year, the company’s security excellence was consolidated in all business areas, with a 60% improvement in the global frequency index, even reaching zero.
These results constitute a particularly noteworthy milestone considering that in this first half of the year the annual technical shutdowns of the Pontevedra and Navia biofactories and the Huelva energy complex have been carried out. These operations, which are highly complex due to the high number of workers involved, were carried out with total safety and a guarantee of health for all participants, without incidents involving sick leave, or any contagion by coronavirus inside the plants, thanks to the preventive measures and specific protocols applied.
In addition, Ence’s commitment to the safety and health of its human team has recently been endorsed through the recognition received by the Forest Purchasing and Strategy unit, which received the “Escolástico Zaldivar” award, delivered by Fraternidad-Muprespa in the category of “We feel the prevention”. It is an award that highlights those organizations highly committed to security, and highlighted the predictive algorithm, developed by this unit, of the work areas with the greatest potential for risk.
In this line, Ence’s leadership in safety matters continues to be reinforced, highlighted by the European Pulp Industry Association (EPIS), which last May determined that Ence’s factories were, of Among all those on the continent, those that achieved the best safety indexes in the first three months of 2021, based on the information reported by the different associated firms.
On the other hand, during the first half of the year and within the context of the health crisis derived from the global pandemic caused by Covid-19, Ence has continued to prioritize the safety and health of the entire Ence family, both its own staff and companies at all times. contractors. The evolution of the pandemic is periodically monitored by the company, which continuously updates the defense protocols against the virus.
Among the measures applied are actions in the organization of work and in measures of social distancing, ventilation and air renewal, use of specific individual protection equipment, periodic disinfection, screening through detection tests, training, information and communication , provision of health resources and plans for the management of potential emergencies.
Ence’s commitment to people’s health and safety is one of the company’s operating principles. Ence views security as an integral element of the way it works. In addition, the company not only aims to protect the health and safety of its employees, but of all the people who work for the company, including the contractors who provide services. Thus, security, thus understood and managed, allows all the people who collaborate in Ence to develop in a safe environment, and also represents a factor of competitiveness for the company.
