In order to continue its contribution to responsible forest management and sustainable economic and social development in rural areas, Ence renews its campaigns aimed at forest owners in September. These initiatives will remain active until the end of the 2022.
In this way, the company confirms its commitment to the forestry sector, promoting innovative proposals that improve forest management and stimulate activity and employment related to the sector.
Consequently, Ence will continue to prioritize eucalyptus wood from plots that meet the oversized wood criterion, within its campaign “Do you have a forest over 30 years old?” Owners will receive an additional premium of 7 euros per tonne, as well as four new plants per tonne to replant, if one in ten trees on the plot has a diameter equal to greater than 70 centimeters at its widest part. With this incentive, excessively mature plantations, which due to their age already have a very low growth rate, through adequate forestry, will be able to begin to generate wood again at a good pace.
Likewise, the campaign aimed at improving the productivity of those plantations with little growth is maintained, to promote the renewal of these forests, optimize their management and avoid their abandonment. With this objective, Ence is committed to providing the owner with eight new quality eucalyptus plants for each ton of eucalyptus wood from plots with less than 125 tonnes per hectare.
The company also continues with the points program for forest owners, through which each ton of wood sold to Ence means new points that can be exchanged for different items, as well as interesting discounts in nurseries. The close and trusting relationship between Ence and the forest owners has resulted in the success of this initiative, called “We grow together”: more than 200 forest owners are already part of the program.
Finally, the “Contigo +” project is also underway, through which anyone, whether owner or not, can refer an acquaintance who wants to sell eucalyptus wood to the company. In this case, both people will receive a gift from the company.
Proof of Ence’s commitment to the owners are the figures from last year, in which Ence bought standing timber from a total of 1,395 forest owners, of which almost 80 percent were owners of small areas. All of this contributes to creating activity and distributing wealth in rural areas, helping to fix the population and to combat the phenomenon of “Empty Spain”.
Thus, Ence wants to contribute to generating economic, social and environmental value through responsible and sustainable management, which, by taking advantage of a natural, renewable and recyclable resource and sustaining rural populations, avoids the abandonment of management and ensure the betterment of the planet through circular bioeconomy.
