Ence – Energía y Celulosa has been awarded with the “Responsible Company” recognition in the first edition of the “We are Forest” awards, organized by PEFC, a non-governmental non-profit organization that promotes and disseminates Sustainable Forest Management, on the occasion of its 25th anniversary. Luis Javier Sánchez, Ence’s Director of Forestry Sustainability, was in charge of collecting this award.
This award highlights Ence’s commitment to sustainable forest management, a commitment in which Ence has been a pioneer since the beginning of this forest management certification program. Ence has worked closely with PEFC, implementing sustainability practices throughout its value chain, and collaborating with the different actors in the sector for the implementation and dissemination of good practices.
PEFC certification, which promotes responsible forest management, has also been a fundamental pillar of Ence’s operations, ensuring that its forest products come from sustainably managed sources.
To this end, Ence achieved certification of the forest management of its forestry subsidiaries (currently called Silvasur Agroforestal and Ence Terra), which were the first PEFC-certified managers in Spain. In addition, the company actively promoted the certification of forest owners in its environment, both of the sustainability of their forest management through improvements in the same, as well as their chain of custody through the reinforcement of their traceability.
PEFC Chain of Custody certification guarantees the traceability of forest products from the forest to the end consumer, providing an additional guarantee of sustainability.
