Ence Navia marks more than 20 years of renewing its commitment to environmental management through the European EMAS register

Ence Navia reaffirms its role as a benchmark in industrial sustainability by maintaining its continuous registration, since 2002, under the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS).

The company was the first industrial company in Asturias to obtain this European registration and has successively renewed its participation ever since. As a result, Ence Navia has become the longest-standing company participating in this voluntary European Union environmental management mechanism in the field of environmental management.

EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) is a tool developed by the European Union that recognises organisations which have implemented an Environmental Management System and have committed to continuous improvement, verified through independent audits.

Adherence to EMAS entails meeting more stringent requirements than those established by legal regulations. For more than two decades, Ence has undergone external audits that ensure the transparency of its environmental data, with each published environmental statement validated by independent bodies.

Innovation and continuous improvement

For the company, EMAS is not merely a certification, but a catalyst for innovation and continuous improvement. Ence regularly reviews its environmental objectives, adapting them to global challenges and the expectations of its stakeholders. This has enabled significant progress in energy efficiency, waste management and emissions reduction, as well as the promotion of projects such as effluent recirculation and water regeneration, which reduce water consumption.

International recognition

Ence’s biofactory in Navia has established itself as an international benchmark in sustainability, endorsed by prestigious recognitions. These include the Ecovadis Platinum Medal, the highest rating awarded by this global platform; the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, a symbol of environmental excellence; and the EU Ecolabel, which certifies environmentally friendly products. In addition, its biomass holds the SURE certification, guaranteeing its sustainability, and the plant is certified with AENOR’s Zero Waste label, highlighting its commitment to the circular economy
