Ence has been renewing its commitment to environmental management for more than 25 years through the European EMAS registry

Ence reaffirms its role as a benchmark in industrial sustainability by maintaining, without interruption since 1999, its adherence to the European Union’s Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS).
The company was the first in Galicia to obtain this European registration, successively renewing its presence in this system. It has thus become the longest-standing company participating in this voluntary European Union environmental management mechanism.

The EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) system is a tool developed by the European Union that recognizes organizations that have implemented an Environmental Management System and have made a commitment to continuous improvement, verified through independent audits.

Adherence to EMAS implies assuming more demanding requirements than those established by legal regulations. For more than two decades, Ence has undergone external audits that guarantee the transparency of its environmental data. Each published statement is validated by independent bodies.

Innovation and continuous improvement

For the company, EMAS is not just a certificate, but a catalyst for innovation and continuous improvement. The company regularly reviews its environmental objectives, adapting them to global challenges and the expectations of its stakeholders. All of this has led to significant advances in energy efficiency, waste management, and emissions reduction, as well as promoting projects such as effluent recirculation and water regeneration, which reduce water consumption.

International recognition

Ence’s biofactory in Pontevedra has established itself as an international benchmark in sustainability, backed by prestigious awards. These include the Ecovadis Platinum Medal, the highest rating awarded by this global platform; the Nordic Swan eco-label, a symbol of environmental excellence; the European Commission’s Gold Medal for environmental improvement; and the EU Ecolabel, which certifies environmentally friendly products. In addition, its biomass has SURE accreditation, which guarantees its sustainability, and, more recently, AENOR has recognized the plant’s 20 years of environmental commitment.
