Ence Energía generated enough renewable energy last year to cover the electricity needs of more than 1.2 million people in Spain. Thanks to the activity of the 8 plants that the company has in Andalusia, Extremadura and Castilla La Mancha, it produced more than 1.4 million MWh of renewable energy obtained from biomass.
Biomass generation stands out for its manageability, which provides stability to the electrical system while contributing to its decarbonisation. All this, through a renewable energy capable of recovering remains from local agricultural and forestry activity.
This technology has become a paradigm of the circular economy, since by recovering these agroforestry remains to give them a new life, it manages to avoid mismanagement of them, which on many occasions leads to their uncontrolled burning or their abandonment in spaces natural.
Ence Energía has plants located in the towns of Huelva, Jaén, Córdoba, Ciudad Real and Mérida. Its activity represents an important economic engine for these provinces, since it not only provides sustainable and quality employment, but also constitutes a growth lever for the rural environment, an area heavily affected by the growing phenomenon of depopulation that affects the so-called “ Empty Spain”.
Along these lines, each megawatt installed for biomass sustains 25 direct, indirect and induced jobs – according to data from the Association of Renewable Energy Companies (APPA) – which raises the social impact of the energy activity of these 8 plants to 6,650 jobs in Spain.
Sustainability is a fundamental pillar, transversally, in all of Ence Energía’s activity. In this sense, the company has successfully completed -and in a pioneering way in Spain- an ambitious process of certification of the sustainability of the biomass that it values in its facilities through the SURE verification scheme. Once this objective has been achieved, it is now proposed to continue promoting sustainability among all the suppliers of its plants, so that they also acquire this certification. To this end, Ence Energía has deployed a Consulting and Collaboration Plan that focuses on training, implementation and certification tasks for the entire chain of collaborators.
