Ence and the Cámara de Comercio de Oviedo seal their alliance to promote sustainable employment, activity and development in Asturias

Ence – Energía y Celulosa and the Cámara de Comercio de Oviedo have celebrated today, in the Asturian biofactory of the company, the act of signing the agreement of adhesion of the company to this business network. This alliance is born with the firm objective of continuing to promote employment, activity and sustainable development from the company’s biofactory in Navia, through the investment plans announced for the growth and diversification of these facilities.

The Cámara de Comercio de Oviedo has a long history in its firm vocation to serve the interests of companies based in Asturias. Thus, through this agreement, both entities will work together on issues related to the strategic attraction of investment or the fight against depopulation of rural areas, providing Ence, as a company generating activity and employment, collaboration and support within the framework of its activity.

Similarly, the agreement includes the promotion of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) included in the 2030 Agenda, of which the Cámara de Comercio de Oviedo is a promoter among Asturian companies. Ence, thanks to its experience and leadership in the values related to the circular bioeconomy, will make a decisive contribution to the progress of the aforementioned global goals from its biofactory in Navia.

Ignacio Colmenares, President of Ence, said that this agreement “is a further step in our commitment to sustainable industrial activity and economic development of Navia, the West and throughout Asturias”. “Although we have already worked together with the Cámara de Comercio, our membership as partners will strengthen our relationship, and allow us to continue leading fundamental aspects such as population fixation in rural areas, the generation of quality employment, or progress towards a greener and more sustainable economy,” he said.

In addition, during the morning, the Executive Committee of the Cámara de Comercio de Oviedo held an ordinary session of the institution’s management body at the biofactory facilities, as part of the priority set by the current government team for the Chamber to be present in the territory of its demarcation, in this case in the West, where one of its branches (delegation) is located, specifically in Luarca, providing service to the whole area.

Also, the businessmen who make up the Executive Committee of the Cámara have been able to see first hand the projects of Ence as a driving company in the region. After the meeting with the directors of Ence, and the subsequent visit to the facilities, the Committee of the Cámara de Comercio de Oviedo has valued as “strategic” the project “Navia Excelente”. The president of the Cámara, Carlos Paniceres, has moved that “Ence is an example of a leading company committed to the territory, and its investments strongly accompanies the generation of economic activity in their geographical environment, this being the best of actions in the fight against the demographic challenge”.

“Navia Excelente” is Ence’s commitment to the growth and diversification of its Asturian biofactory. It is an investment plan of 133 million euros, capable of boosting the business and creating value, fully aligned with the notion of circular bioeconomy. This initiative includes different projects, focused on the promotion of differentiated products; diversification in fluff cellulose (especially for absorbent hygiene products); as well as an innovative decarbonisation project, which will reduce the environmental footprint through the recovery of lignin as a biofuel, combined with improved efficiency.
