Ence Pontevedra increased its efficiency in 2018

Ence’s biofactory in Pontevedra increased its efficiency in 2018, which led it to increase its production to 437,505 tons of pulp, almost 3,000 more than in 2017. Likewise, last year the Lourizán plant recorded its maximum daily production, which was established at 1,371 tons.

During the 2018 technical stop, the biofactory carried out various works to improve its facilities that allowed it to boost its efficiency and continue to optimize its environmental performance, consolidating it as one of the most advanced centers for the production of eucalyptus pulp. of Europe, next to the biofactory of Ence en Navia.

Ence Pontevedra also generated in 2018 a total of 238,981 MWh of renewable energy, from the use of the biomass of the cellulose production process, as well as the lignin that is extracted in this process and that constitutes an excellent renewable, indigenous and natural biofuel.

Strong commitment to sustainability

During the past year, Ence Pontevedra not only improved its production results, but also its parameters in terms of sustainability. Thus, the biofactory reduced by 40% the daily odor minutes compared to 2017. Similarly, it managed to reduce water consumption by 4% compared to the previous year.

Excellence in sustainability is one of the company’s strategic priorities. Safety, excellence and environmental reliability, as well as reducing the carbon footprint, minimizing water consumption in production processes and promoting the circular economy are key points of the new Ence Strategic Plan 2019-2023.

To achieve this, the company contemplates in its new Strategic Plan an investment of between 60 and 110 million euros to strengthen the reliability, flexibility, environmental excellence and safety of the biofactory until 2023.
